Canton Fair Phases Explained — Which Phase Should You Attend?

Understanding the Three Phases

Canton Fair is divided into 3 phases, each covering different product categories

Canton Fair runs for approximately three weeks in total, divided into three distinct phases. Each phase lasts about 5 days, with a gap of 3-4 days between phases for the exhibition halls to be reconfigured for the next set of exhibitors.

This structure exists because the Pazhou Complex, despite being enormous, cannot accommodate all 25,000+ exhibitors simultaneously. By dividing products into three phases, the fair ensures that each industry gets dedicated space and attention. For buyers, this means you need to plan which phase(s) to attend based on the products you are sourcing.

Many experienced Indian traders attend only one phase that matches their industry. However, some larger importers who deal in multiple product lines attend two or even all three phases. Attending multiple phases requires a longer stay in Guangzhou (up to 3 weeks) but gives you access to the widest range of suppliers.

Phase 1 — Electronics, Machinery & Building Materials

Electronics, Machinery & Industrial

Spring: April 15-19, 2025 | Autumn: October 15-19, 2025

Phase 1 is the most popular phase among Indian importers, particularly those in the electronics and machinery sectors. This phase attracts the highest number of buyers globally. You will find everything from consumer electronics (LED lights, mobile accessories, power tools) to heavy industrial machinery. Indian importers looking for electrical components, solar products, construction materials, LED lighting, and hardware tools should prioritize Phase 1.

Phase 2 is a favourite among Indian importers who supply to the home decor, gifting, and lifestyle markets. This phase has a more creative and design-oriented feel compared to the industrial focus of Phase 1. Pro Tips for Phase Planning

Attend the first day of your phase

Suppliers are most energetic and available on Day 1. By the last day, many are tired and less willing to negotiate. Arrive early on the opening day.

Plan for 2-3 full days per phase

Each phase has thousands of exhibitors. You cannot cover everything in one day. Plan for at least 2 full days to thoroughly explore your target categories.

Use the online catalogue to shortlist

Before arriving, browse the Canton Fair online catalogue to shortlist suppliers and booth numbers. This saves hours of aimless walking at the venue.

Consider attending two phases

If your business spans categories (e.g., electronics AND home decor), consider attending two phases. Stay for the gap days between phases to visit factories.
